Congratulations to Louise Collins and all from the YWCA for creating such an amazing day in Lismore yesterday. Raising awareness around Child Protection Week, Louise came up with a plan to create a sand sculpture right in the middle of town, with the help of artist Karma Barnes. Everyone was invited to contribute their little patch of dirt using sand and soil from the surrounding areas...and contribute they did! It usually takes 9 months to grow a baby and no doubt there was much planning in the lead up to yesterday's events, but Lismore birthed a baby in a just day! Cos we're awesome like that!

In spite of gusting winds, work started early....and this is how you make a baby!

As part of the day's fun, there was live music, storytelling, face painting, balloon twisting, art, craft and knitting...and lots of smiles.

The sand was kept damp to combat the wind and also bring out the colours.

Once the sand had been finished, hundreds of clay pots holding more coloured sand were then placed around the edge of the work.

This work covers the entire roundabout on the corner of Keen and Magellan Streets. It is difficult to get an idea of the scale or to see all the details in a photo. Take a wander down and have a look before all the combined love is shared to distant places, blown by the wind.
Massive gratitude to the following organisations for making it all happen;
YWCA, NAPCAN, CASPA, Foundation Care, RED Inc, Social Futures (Northern Rivers Social Development Council), Multitask, Family Referral Service, Lismore Come to The Heart, Family Support Network Inc and Brighter Futures.
Support the organisations who support our community. Send them your love and kind words.
Keep children safe.
