Be prepared for a bit of a rant.
Normally I publish photos of lovers laughing, cuddling, kissing, being openly in love on their wedding day. Yesterday I photographed an "Unwedding" for two beautiful women and sadly, at their request, I am unable to show you their faces of happiness.
They have been in a committed relationship now for 14 years, but due to our ridiculous laws, are still unable to be legally married. Though 'out' to their family and friends, they are unable to be open in their workplaces due to the real possibility of consequences, hence the no-show of faces.
I hate the fact that people have to 'come out' about their sexuality.
I hate that we feel the need for so many labels to place on people.
I hate the fact that we still live in a world where chunks of society still feel they can dictate who you can or cannot love.
I hate that these two women cannot feel free to express their love openly, anywhere, anytime for fear of negative repercussions.
I hate that same sex couples can't just get married like everyone else.
So because of all the BS, here is a photo of their hands, lightly touching in a public place...just in case.
I wish them both every happiness and I also hope that in the not too distant future, this kind of rant will be unnecessary and everyone can live and love openly and honestly.
Rant over.
